Seine River

The Seine river is the essential point of reference in the city. It divides the capital into two distinct areas, the Rive Droite (Right Bank) on the north side of the river and the Rive Gauche (Left Bank) on the south side. They are linked by a great number of bridges, each having its own unique character. The river is busy with commercial barges and bateaux-mouches (leisure boats carrying sightseers up and down the river).

Modern Architecture

With its 200 meters height, the Montparnasse Tower is the tallest building in Europe and is visible from all over Paris. Its 58 floors are mainly occupied by offices. The terrace at the top has a wonderful panoramic view of Paris and its surroundings.
The Grande Arche de La Defense, an office building, is a massive cubic arch covered in white marble. Its shape is a modern version of the Arc de Triomphe with which it is visibly aligned. Through the canvas canopy that stretches between the sides of the arch, several tubular glass elevators take the visitors to the top to enjoy a spectacular view over Paris.

La Defense

This business district of skyscrapers on the western edge of Paris is said to be the largest concentration of tall buildings in Europe. It is outstanding in the quality and originality of its architecture. The complex consists of office buildings, hotels, apartments, shops and restaurants in a car-free zone. The concrete, glass and steel towers stand in a futuristic setting of green areas, fountains and modern sculptures.

Jardin du Luxembourg

Jardin du Luxembourg is a popular and one of the most stylish parks located in the center of Paris. The Palais du Luxembourg first built as a royal residence became in 1958 the home to the French Senate. The cast iron fence surrounding the park is used to display photo exhibitions of internationally known photographers.
